Patchouli Essential Oil

Patchouli Essential Oil

Used for centuries in perfumes and fragrances, Patchouli is one of the more aromatic essential oils. Patchouli oil has an easily recognizable rich musky-sweet fragrance and is used widely in the perfume industry.
Patchouli is a species from the genus Pogostemon a bushy herb of the mint family, with erect stems, reaching two or three feet in height and bearing small pale-pink or white flowers. The plant is native to the tropical regions of Asia but is now extensively cultivated in China, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius, Philippines, West Africa and Vietnam.
During the 18th and 19th century silk traders from China traveling to the Middle East packed their silk cloth with dried patchouli leaves to prevent moths from laying their eggs on the cloth. Many historians speculate that this association with opulent eastern goods is why patchouli was considered by Europeans of that era to be a luxurious scent. It is said that patchouli was used in the linen chests of Queen Victoria in this way. Studies today suggest that patchouli essential oil may serve as an all-purpose insect repellent.
Patchouli essential oil is known to have a grounding, balancing effect on the emotions while providing excellent mood support. Patchouli is also widely used for wounds and tissue repair, as well as in skin care preparations for these same properties.
Product Tips:
  • To make your own wrinkle cream, add 10 drops of Patchouli, Myrrh, and Geranium to an unscented body lotion or massage oil.
  • For oily skin and hair add a few drops of Patchouli essential oil to your shampoo or facial cream.
  • Diffuse for a calming, soothing effect.
  • Add a few drops to your pets shampoo for a deodorizing effect.
The strong sweet, spicy and musky aroma of this "essential oil" keeps away body odor. But it should be used in dilution as sometimes the aroma of Patchouli Oil might feel too strong to bear.

Increase Your Awareness with Wintergreen Essential Oil

Wintergreen is most commonly known as a sweet and minty flavoring agent in chewing gum, toothpaste, and yes, even root beer! However, Wintergreen essential oil has even more to offer therapeutically.
Wintergreen essential oil has a very powerful aroma, and when used aromatically can help influence, elevate, open, and increase awareness in your sensory system.
Wintergreen essential oil can also act as a great soothing and comforting agent for aches and pains, which is why it’s the main essential oil in dōTERRA’s Deep Blue Soothing Blend. Wintergreen has also traditionally been used for a variety of issues including skin conditions, infections, fevers, gallstones, and much more.
Tips from dōTERRA:
  • If applying to skin, make sure to test on a small area of skin first for skin sensitivity. If sensitivity occurs, dilute with fractionated coconut oil.
  • Wintergreen has a warming effect when applied to skin as is excellent to use in a massage to relieve sore muscles. A little goes a long way, so use sparingly.
  • For a soothing bath, add 3-5 drops of Wintergreen essential oil to warm bath water.
  • Wintergreen essential oil is not recommended to take internally and should be stored out of reach from children.

Essential Oils are One of the Most Precious Gifts from Nature

NaturalNews) Interest in the use of essential oils has enjoyed a massive revival in recent decades. Many of the more discerning amongst us have come to realize that our modern, fast and often frenetic pace of life is doing us harm. In addition, we worry about the amount of chemicals and additives being ingested by our bodies through foods, medications, toiletries and fragrances. The formula used for healing natural oils is 100% natural and produced from the highest quality pure natural essential oils. These essential oils are organic at source, free from pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. Contrary to the use of the word "oil", most essential oils are not really oily-feeling at all. Essential oils are highly concentrated and a little goes a long way which makes them very economical in use. The use of essential oils is a great way to get back to a more natural lifestyle. Many essential oils have medicinal properties that have been applied since ancient times and the claims and success of these medicinal properties have been upheld in modern studies. It is recognized that essential oils can affect the lipids of a cell membrane, as well as hormone levels, and can actually inhibit bacterial growth. The term "essential" means that the oil is the fragrant essence of the plant from which it is extracted. Today, most common essential oils are distilled. However, prior to the discovery of distillation, essential oils were extracted by pressing. An essential oil is a concentrated liquid containing volatile aromatic compounds from plants. Today many skin conditions can be safely and gently treated by essential oil products. These skin conditions include skin tags, moles, rosacea and acne while some of the more troublesome conditions such as warts, hemorrhoids, anal fissures and many more are all treated easily with essential oils products. There are also conditions that many pregnant women suffer from such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, varicose veins and stretch marks, and in these instances, there are special formulas which are totally safe for use by pregnant and nursing mothers. This is a very important point for anxious mothers-to-be. Other essential oils are used to make safe and gentle products for newborn babies as well as children. The conditions that can be treated include colic, diaper rash, dry skin and diarrhea for babies and younger children. Essential oil treatments for eczema and head lice removal are 100% safe to use for children over the age of 4. New moms can find help with products to assist them in coping with exhaustion, sore nipples and much more. Many years of research have gone into putting together the best formula for optimum results when treating the different conditions with natural healing oils. So it is not wise to just purchase essential oils from a supplier in the hope that you will get the best results from them yourself at home. Whatever your problem or condition, there may well be an essential oils healing treatment for you which you can order on line and use in the privacy of your own home. You can now take better care of yourself and your family in a safe and natural way by reaping the benefits of essential oils. DIY: Mouthwash Recipe Made with Essential Oils for a Fresh, Clean Mouth

If you look on the back of your mouthwash bottle, what you may discover is that you are actually just getting a mouthful of chemicals. Active ingredients in mouthwash usually include Benzalkonium chloride, Methylparaben, Hydrogen peroxide, Domiphen bromide, Hexetidine, and Chlorhexidine gluconate. (You can read more about each active ingredient at http://www.oralhealthnet.co.uk/detail/31/ingredients-of-mouthwash/) Other popular ingredients include foaming agents, ethyl alcohol, flavored oils, antimicrobial ingredients, colorants, preservatives and fluoride. One of the most popular ingredients, ethyl alcohol, can weaken the lining of gums and oral cavity, which can increase the risk of damaging chemicals affecting your DNA. Research reported by Standford University suggests, though it is not conclusive, that the alcohol in antiseptic mouthwash might increase the risk of oral cancer. Read more about the study at http://www.livestrong.com/article/109596-ingredients-antiseptic-mouthwash/ .  Most mouthwashes also include synthetic colors, aromas, and flavorings—which are basically perfumes. These perfumes and alcohols contained in most mouthwashes may take away mouth odors temporarily, but they can also alter the basic flora and pH of your mouth and throat which can have serious side effects. Not all mouthwashes are created equal, and some use more questionable ingredients than others. One way to freshen your mouth without the worry is to create your own mouthwash using essential oils that are antimicrobial and antiseptic in nature. You can easily make your own mouthwash that is free of chemicals, perfumes, preservatives, artificial colors, and more with two simple ingredients—water and essential oils—which can be just as beneficial (if not more) than chemicals used in traditional mouthwashes. Try this simple and cost effective mouthwash recipe for a clean, refreshed, and healthy mouth.
