Essential oils and Pets

Did you know that castile soap is a natural and effective soap for shampoo to use on our pets? It’s economical and gentle. For those pets whose skin is irritated by commercial cleansers, Castile soap is a better alternative to keep their coats clean without causing distress. Originating in Castile, Spain it was initially made with 100% pure olive oil. Nowadays, Castile soap is usually missing the 100% olive oil but is mixed with other carrier oils. I highly recommend unscented so you can add your own essential oils that contain different properties and used for different reasons. Many essential oils are known for their bug repelling value. Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, Lavender, Peppermint and Rosemary to name a few. Animal’s noses are very sensitive so a strong fragrance can be irritating for them and is best to use less drops than more. CPTG Essential oils should be used as synthetics and cheap oils can do more harm than good.
Some essential oils are toxic to cats and it is important to stay away from those which contain phenol such as lemon, cinnamon, wintergreen, thyme, birch and peppermint.
